Optometric services

Doctors of Optometry are primary health care professionals for the eye. They examine, diagnose, treat and manage diseases, injuries, and disorders of visual system, the eye, and associated structures as well as identify related systemic conditions affecting the eye.

Optometrists prescribe medications, low vision rehabilitation, vision therapy, spectacle lenses, contact lenses and perform certain ocular procedures. They assist in determining the need for surgery and comanage care after surgery.

An optometrist has to complete a pre-professional undergraduate degree in college followed by four years of professional education in a college of optometry. Many optometrists also complete a residency in a specific area of practice after obtaining their degree.
